Ian Lacy returns as driver-coach for G.FRO...

January 15, 2007 - San Clemente, California-based Team G.FRO is proud to announce that coveted drivercoach Ian Lacy will return with the team for their third season of racing.

Lacy, an equally talented and accomplished driver as he is a driver-coach, will accompany the Team G.FRO squad in its first season of Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear competition. Lacy will continue to work with Team G.FRO's drivers in the Pacific F2000 Series in addition to the Star Mazda Championshipthe series in which Lacy won the 1998 title as a driver.

"I'm looking forward to a return to the Star Mazda series," commented Lacy, who will also drive in select Grand-Am Cup events this season behind the wheel of a Ford Mustang. "It's one of the most competitive series here in America, and I look forward to helping G.FRO and its drivers make the transition into the new racecars. We are going to have some very fast drivers with the team this year, so I believe the potential is there to run at the front."

The 2007 racing season will mark the third complete season Lacy has lead driver-coaching duties for Team G.FRO. He made his debut with the team as a driver in 2005 in the opening rounds of the Pacific F2000 Series at Phoenix International Raceway, sweeping the weekend with two wins and in turn, coaching and helping the team's regular drivers improve. Team G.FRO owner Geoff Fickling realized the value Lacy could bring to his team, which quickly led to a successful and long-lasting working relationship.

"We're very excited to have Ian back for this season," explained Fickling. "His experience in Mazda, working within our team, and the difference he has made in all of our drivers the past two seasons made it an easy decision to ask him to return. In my opinion, he is the best of the best in terms of driver-coaching at this level and he is for sure a huge asset to our team and drivers."

Lacy's first participation in Star Mazda began in 1998 when he drove and won the title in his rookie season with Stacy Suspension Systems, which led to a driver-coaching position the following year with the same team. Lacy-coached drivers won the following two Star Mazda titles, making it three-in-a-row for Lacy, and all the more exciting for a return to the series for 2007.

"I foresee the 2007 season to be an exciting and challenging year for the G.FRO team and I," continued Lacy. "It appears we will be working with a talented group of drivers this season, so the challenge for me will be to work with the drivers as a team, as well as individually to help them achieve their maximum result by the end of the season. I look forward to the challenge, as well as a return to the series."

Team G.FRO's Star Mazda Championship effort in addition to their junior-level Pacific F2000 team has helped the team established a proper driver-development program in two leading levels of junior formula car racing in the United States. Young drivers can in turn graduate straight from karting, move to F2000, and onto Star Mazda within the G.FRO team, in order to continue and develop young drivers up the open-wheel racing ladder.
